Jeana Blackert – Associate Artist
Jeana Blackert’s creative practice incorporates textile, ceramic, and photographic methods to create objects, images and installations. Her artwork is often site-specific, responding to the elemental and material aspects of a place. The ideas behind her work guide the materials she chooses to make with, preferring materials that are readily available such as paper, string, plant matter or materials found at a site. Through her art-making she contemplates a reciprocal exchange between the body, organic and architectural forms; and the tensions which arise between perception and making her inner landscape visible.
Jeana Blackert migrated to Australia in 2001 from North America and is of European and Kanaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) descent. She comes from a long line of humans who make things. She was taught to knit by her maternal grandma, to sew and embroider by her mom, encouraged in photography and image-making by her paternal grandma; and learned versatility and resilience in life and making from her dad. She also holds formal qualifications in textiles and creative arts from Box Hill TAFE and Deakin University. Jeana was a key member of Blink’s creative team as visual artist for Bloom Dept (2025) and Cloud Chamber (2026). She is grateful to have persevered in creative practice for over 15 years, and to live, work and create on Wadawarrung Country.
